Just for interest's sake. The paragraph came from newsscan at newsscan.com

SUPPORT FOR DEBIAN
VA Linux Systems, Silicon Graphics and the book publisher O'Reilly &
Associates are jointly offering a commercial support package for Debian GNU
Linux, one of the varieties of the "open source" Linux operating system
created by Finnish programmer Linus Torvalds. Linux has been developed
largely by volunteer programmers who refined the system's source code that
Torvalds made open to everyone. The Debian variation was created in 1993 by
Ian Murdock, who was then an undergraduate student at Purdue University, and
who named the software after his wife Debra and himself. The commercial
support will include, for $19.95, the operating system on a CD ROM, a manual
of instruction, and a coupon for a copy of the Star Office productivity
suite offered by Sun Microsystems. (New York Times 12 Oct 99)
