I've had really good luck with Best Data modems (my last 2 modems
have been Best Data). They are cheap. They have jumpers. And they
work. I was even pleasantly surprised to find, while playing with
vgetty, that my 56K Best Data modem (while not advertised as such)
does support voice to some degree, which allowed me to set up an
impressive automated attendant demo.

I use rc.serial to set up my modem on ttyS2.
