The first order of business is to include the proper entry in the
/etc/termcap (or terminfo) file [whichever applies to your system] for the
wyse50. This will define the cursor movements, the block select/de-select,
vectors, and built-in editing directives, as well as any other "standard"
terminal characteristics within the pervue of termcap and/or curses.

If you're interested in the format of such an entry, please consult the
manpage for termcap
and terminfo.

Once the entry is defined, you can set the shell and environment
variables to point to the
entry and most applications (X or otherwise) will behave properly. You
should be aware that
both the window-server and window-client side devices must be able to
initiate and respond
to these directives, or else the terminal definition will not be viable.

Hope this helps. [I spent nearly 14 years trying to get my head wrapped
around the magic
of terminal definitions, curses, X-windows, etc., and I'm still learning new
things every day]. About the only "fact" I've garnered is that anybody who
says they are an expert at this is an
idiot.
