Symmetric.

Advantages: 

1. Generally better upstream bandwidth, useful for servers, mediacasting, etc.
2. Frequently sold as a business service, with greater upstream bandwidth,
reliability, support, etc.

Disadvantages:

1. Generally worse downstream bandwidth than ADSL
2. Usually more expensive than ADSL (but some reasonably priced offerings are
becoming available).
