[lug] 3Com 905c problem

Can you please post the contents of the following files:

/etc/conf.modules
/etc/sysconfig/network
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

Also, just for grins the output of the lspci command and the uname -a
command.

I have a 3C900 that came with my US West package working correctly running
with a 2.2.14 kernel. Perhaps I can figure out what is different in your
system. One difference is that I compiled support for mine directly into the
kernel without using a module. You might try that also.

Sorry for not being completely clear in my first email: The 3com 905c NIC
never works. I do have the alias in my config file (alias eth0 3c59x)
already, but it doesn't help. I can load the driver, and it assigns
resources to the NIC, but I cannot get it on the network at all...

So the card driver fails at bootup, but works when you manually
invoke the driver module?

If so, the system may not be finding the driver module because it
will be looking in /lib/modules/2.2.14/net for the module. The distro
came with /lib/modules/2.2.12 for the original kernel version.
There may also be some confusion on the name of your latest
kernel ( perhaps the map file in /boot? ) preventing the module
installer from getting the the modules at 2.2.14.
