[lug] Scanners?

OK, so I'm back to considering the purchase of a scanner. At this time,
it seems that a flatbed scanner would best meet my needs. Does anyone
have any general recomendations?

It might also help to mention that my OS of preference is Linux so I
really would prefer something with a SANE <http://panda.mostang.com/sane/>
rather than a TWAIN <http://www.twain.org/> interface.

The SANE web site has a list of scanners at
http://panda.mostang.com/sane/sane-backends.html and there is a general
list of Linux supported scanners at
http://www.linux.org/help/ldp/howto/Hardware-HOWTO-22.html#ss22.1 . Based
on the SANE page it looks like the Artek, DMC, and Umax scanners would be
the best supported choices since they are listed as "stable" rather than
either "alpha" or "beta", but I'm not against choosing something else if
there is a good reason.

I could even force myself to boot my MSWindows partition occassionally if
I need to go that route <smirk>. I just thought I'd see if any of you
have strong opinions, good/bad experiences, etc..
