Have you checked inetd.conf to ensure telnet is enabled ?

/etc/inetd.conf

Ensure telnet line is not commented out "#"

You might get this if the network is truly unreachable.  Have you 
verified that your local firewall is not blocking telnet for some 
strange reason (i.e. does another box allow telnet in/out)?

Diamond sucks like a vacuum in space anyway.  Can you return it?

I've been using the ATI and Matrox cards exclusively for the last 2 
years, very few problems (especially with Matrox).
