I have had no problem with SMP. I have an Intel PR440FX board with two 
200MHz Pentium Pro chips. It's been up for months on end running 2.2.14, 
and I just recently updated to 2.2.16 and am having no problems so far. 
Sure the dual PPro is not a screamer, but it does do server stuff fast 
enough ;-)
