WOuld you mind tring the SVGA (unaccelerated) server? It could be an issue

Speaking as someone who has had problems with other video card in the past,
I'll agree: The video will work great, even when X itself won't.

And it still can't hurt, and might help.

Final question, which somebody else brought up: How did you configure X on
this machine? ie: Which tools did you use for this process?
