I use minicom to  connect to the cisco. I think you'll have to hit [ENTER]
first. Another thing, I have to hit CTRL-A Z and then use the exit and reset
the modem option. Don't just exit the session, otherwise you won't be able
to minicom back and will have to power cycle the cisco.
