Any Linux application should work in RedHat or any other version of
Linux on the same platform (Intel PC, PowerMac, Sun, ...). You may need
tweak some settings but since RedHat is almost a standard here in the US
most applications are well supported under RedHat. You may want to
upgrade to a recent version of KRUD. Kevin takes the time to fix minor
issues that RedHat distributions may have. If you already have RedHat
installed you can simply run an upgrade and you won't need to answer
many questions.

Based on recent reviews I have read you may also want to take a look at
Mandrade Linux. For beginners their distributions seems to really stand
out as far as ease of configuration, administration, completeness, ...
go.

So the single word answer to your question is - YES.
A good starting point for Linux documentation is
http://www.linuxdoc.org/. You may also want to look at some of the
O'Reilly books.
