[lug] bind 9.1.0

i just recently put bind 9.1 on a staging server. it appears to be running
well on existing bind 8.x named.conf and zone files, however I am not able
to run it as a user other than root. when attempting to use the -u flag, i
receive an error stating that the option is invalid on kernels prior to
2.3.99 when "running threads".
i'm not too familiar with what this is referring to, but since i would
prefer to not run named as root, i'd like to find out more about it.

has anyone gone through this upgrade yet?
