You can uninstall your old glibc (rpm -e glibc).
Then upgrade your glibc-common (rpm -Uvh glibc-common-2.2.12).
Then install the new glibc-2.2.12

I may have it wrong and you need to first remove glibc-common.  RPM is
pretty smart and won't easily let you screw up.  You may have lots more
depencencies to deal with so there may be a better approach than this one.
