I think all you have to do is edit /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf

and change

[xdmcp]
enable=0

to

[xdmcp]
enable=1

I have it running through Inetd and I think this is all I did. Of course I
tried a lot of other things first...

Subject: [lug] VNC on Linux

I have VNC running with the -inetd option,
so a vnc process is spawned when a
connection is made to the appropriate port.

I'm having trouble understanding what I need
to do to xdm/kdm/gdm in order to get it to
function as a server. Obviously, display :0
is running on the console, but I can't get a
login window for the VNC stuff.

Has anyone done this with VNC on Linux? I could
use some pointers at the moment.

Thanks,
Doug Bonnell
