Yep - it's stored in multiple files in $HOME/Mail.  They're text files, so you can hack at them with your favorite editor (you could even copy them to $HOME/nsmail, and examine them with Netscape.

You'd REALLY have been up the creek if your problem was a corrupted Outlook.pst file, BTW.
