OK, now that I'm back from vacation and most of the immediate fires are out
I've gotten 1/2 way to getting my home linux box back up.

Thanks to all the help I've gotten the NIC drivers installed and it
connects to the net with out any problem - now to the X difficulties.

When I did an "rpm --erase XFree" I got a lot of "you can't do that because
these things depend on it"

Do I have to remove all these other things also or just force the XFree86 4
erasure and install XFree86 3 (ie, are there version dependencies on the
other tools)?

Hmmm, now that I have networking up I suppose I should worry about getting
the iptables stuff working before the X server. With my luck I'd get hacked
in the time it takes to get XFree working. Now where did I lay all that
firewall stuff at . . .
