[lug] nfs linux ppp

i have 2 boxes running mandrake 7.2, i can make them see each other if i
boot one to windows and use samba. Hoever i cant get them to exchange
files when ther both running linux (less documentation about setting up a
linux ppp than samba).so i started the portmapper then per my book, i
tried to start the nfs dameon with "service nfs start" this comes back as
a unreconisedservice. same with trying to start the rpc daemon. my comps
in linux can ping each other just fine by ther netbios name or ip. i have
the nfs utils rpm installed. my book is for redhat and so is most of the
docs on the web it seems...so im wondering do i need to find a package or
service im missing or is ther a special command to start nfs and rpc
daemon?
