You may also have to run 'mouseconfig' after it boots as well.

I noticed that the version, mouseconfig-4.21-1, cannot read the 
configuration file that it writes.  My usb-mouse config file is:

prompt % more /etc/sysconfig/mouse
MOUSETYPE="ps/2"
XMOUSETYPE="PS/2"
FULLNAME="Generic Mouse (USB)"
XEMU3=yes
DEVICE=/dev/mouse

To re-run mouseconfig I have to delete the DEVICE line.
