[lug] DOS says no, Linux says yes

I've got a hard drive that I took out of a machine a month ago when the motherboard died. It's been sitting around untouched. It has Linux (25gigs) and Windoze (5gigs) on it and both were working fine.

Yesterday I built a new machine to replace my old machine. I took the above drive and put it in the old one. Linux boots right up, no questions asked. DOS says "Invalid system disk - Replace the disk and press any key" -- this is after the "Loading dos" message. This drive worked fine with both OSes before. I can mount the DOS partition with Linux and I backed everything up that way and reinstalled Windoze. Same error message after the reinstall.

Anyone know what this might be? I tried changing the boot order in the BIOS so that it boots the HD first. Didn't change anything. But it sounds like it's looking for a removable drive.

TIA,

John
