[lug] Annoying new behavior in RedHat/Krud 7.2

I upgraded to 7.2 yesterday. I haven't had time to track down all the things
that were slightly bent by the upgrade (as opposed to broken) but I have
noticed that the Xserver is now being annoying.

I am used to logging in as me, suing to root (or other users for specific
applications) and running various GUI apps. Now when I try to do this I get
messages like:

[emgrasso at xerxes emgrasso]$ su -
Password:
[root at xerxes root]# linuxconf
Error message from remadmin :Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Error message from remadmin :Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to
ServerError message from remadmin :
Error message from remadmin :Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0

Does anyone know what I need to change to return the server to its previous
behavior?

A related annoyance is that linuxconf no longer appears in the menus where it
used to. I have had it loaded for ages and use it daily to change my network
interface settings when I move between home and work. I have heard that
linuxconf is now deprecated, but have seen no announcements about what we are
supposed to use instead.

(I have a pcmcia wireless ethernet card, and a modem card that get swapped in
and out of one pcmcia slot, and a regular ethernet card that stays in the
other pcmcia slot but switches between a hardcoded ethernet address at hiome
and DHCP at work. Linuxconf followed by a reboot is the fastest way I have
found to get the ip addresses, routing and dns settings to do what they are
supposed to. Trying to use DHCP at home interferes with the ppp gateway and
makes samba and nfs configuration messy. )
