thanks for all the helpful responses to my query.

after reading them, i am inclined to go with
an ASUS A7M266.

an additional factor: it is in the list of
AMD-recommended motherboards.
(as per the AMD web site itself)

MSI is well represented therein too. But i found
that ASUS mobos are easier to find in the local
geographical area. (i'd rather do that than mailorder)

for those who asked: the machine i am putting together
will be used mostly for software development. no
need for blazing speeds :) nor exceptional sound or
graphics. it will be in a private net with another
desktop and a laptop. the nice things: 2 40 GB 7200
IDE drives, a viewsonic 18.1 inch LCD display. (would
have prefferred SCSI disks, but the cost
differential is way out there)

i will probably try RH 7.2 if i run into any trouble
with 7.1 (it was recommended... i cannot say i was
not warned :)

i am intrigued about the "KRUD". is it worth the
hassle (for just doing software development)?

thanks again ! -- lana
