[lug] DNS configuration question

This should be a common enough situation that it should be covered by a FAQ
or HOW-to somewhere. I would appreciate a pointer to the most appropriate
source of information, either on the web or in an OReilly book (I have the
Networking CD Bookshelf available, among LOTS of others).

My employer uses 192.168.1.* addresses internally, and is planning to move
our mail and web server from our ISP down onto the new Linux box we are just
setting up. (As local Linux fan, I am the designated setter-upper)

Most of the internal addresses are currently assigned by a DHCP server built
into the DSL router. I hope to change this, since Win2K doesn't like to
admit that our Linux boxes exist. (We can't get rid of Win2K, we specialize
in supporting a product that runs on Win2k and NT as well as on various UNIX
variants.)

I want to set up the mail/web server machine as a dns server that the
machines on the internal network can use to locate and identify each other. I
assume that the best thing to do is to set up the server as their primary dns
and our ISP's nameservers as secondary and tertiary (to give them access to
the rest of the web).

What is the best way to set up this kind of configuration? What does the
relationship need to be between the DSL router and the web/mail/internal-dns
server?

I am looking at using qmail rather than sendmail... should I also seriously
consider djbdns instead of bind?

Thanks
