I was thinking more of a device to walk around and administor or read
status of machines in a large environment. Sure, you could do it over
the net, but there might be advantages to carrying it around like a
calculator and not having to worry about the size and expensive of a
laptop with cellular modem. It could be set up with an administrative
daemon and the ability to attach and detach ir nodes with a single
button. Heck, it could even send email over the ir link concerning
security logs or anything. In terms of being a sound controller, think
of it in a business situation like a retail store and a whole row of
demo machines that scream "multimedia! demo me!" (unlike a regular
remote, this could have all kinds of nice custom settings).

Oooohhhh...really fun and silly idea...network 6 of them vial ir as a
Beowulf cluster. Heheh...grab all your buddies at the table and have
them join in the cluster.
