[lug] recompile kernel

i was trying to recompile the kernel on redhat 7.2
yesterday to my surprise when i cd to /usr/src/linux
it return could not be found.
I have this motherboard Element 867AS, i can not place
any sound. but on the window part of it works fine.
thanks for any assistance.
