As long as your IMAP server will serve those mails, you're golden.  Also be 
aware that there are tools for converting mailbox types.

The beauty of SquirrelMail is that IMAP /is/ the database, you don't need 
MySQL or anything.  One pleasant side effect is that you can access your mail 
with any IMAP agent.  With DB based webmail you are generally stuck with the 
webmail once the mail has been imported into the DB.

I highly recommend it!

If you are looking for groupware functionality, check out PHPGroupWare 
(http://www.phpgroupware.org/) which integrates well with SquirrelMail.
