but note that this figure (~70%) is backed up by some actual theory
regarding the behavior of the Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision
Detect mechanism used by ethernet.  i'm pretty sure that the presence
of switches (in a star topology, as compared to the older bus
topology) does something odd to that theory, however.
