[lug] dd i/o error

I've only had problems with severely scratched discs or with bad cdrom
drives. The size comparison is probably due to dd re-trying the read. I've
seen dd retry a read and get it after a few trys, so it may just be
perisistant and getting all the data even though it's having problems.

Try checking to see if DMA is enabled on the cdrom drive. I had a system
once that turned DMA on by default on the cdrom and for some reason, it just
didn't get along with it worth a darn. Turning it off cured the problem
(slightly older drive, though.)
