I second Michael's advice and would take it a step further: go get a
newer version of Red Hat or KRUD!  The 7.1 version is *old* and a lot
has happened since then.  I've heard that numerous "smp race" conditions
have been fixed over the many months since 7.1 was released.

If you'd like a fresh copy of Red Hat 7.3 or KRUD 7.3, I'm sure there
are folks who will help.  In fact, I'll be happy to burn extra copies
for people at the Hacking Society meeting
