The DMI pool data is part of the PCI bus protocol, before any control is
even handed over to the hard drive. In fact, if you have a PCI bus
controller card, this is how it figures out that the controller exists,
what it is, where it is, so on. It is the hardware query portion of the
bios in PCI systems. This should occur regardless of whether it is set
to "pnp-aware" or "not pnp-aware".
