August Plant Tour - NREL National Wind Technology Center (NWTC)

The Pikes Peak Section of ASME will tour the National Wind Technology
Center located near Boulder on August 29th. NWTC is part of the
National
Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and has as its mission the
research and
development of advanced wind turbine generators. This is one tour you
won't want to miss. The site is a place where government scientists
and
U.S. industry work side-by-side to create advanced wind systems of the
future. The tour will include a discussion about the technologies
used in
designing, testing and integrating wind turbine electric generators,
as
well as a tour of the machines under test and the laboratories used to
evaluate structural and performance characteristics. Some of the
current
research work is geared toward the development of extremely flexible
and
twisted blades to improve aerodynamic performance as well as reduce
damage
from fatigue loads. Come and see the U.S. center for high-tech
research on
an alternative form of energy
production. If you are interesting in learning about wind energy and
getting a chance to get up close to advanced wind-turbine design
concepts
that are under test at this government research facility, this is your
chance.

Date & Time: Thursday, August 29th 4:30-7:00 PM Location: 18200
State
Hwy 128 located near Boulder, Colorado. Logistics: The tour includes
a
dinner priced at $7.00 and includes your choice of Quizno's submarine
sandwiches, chips or cookie, and a variety of sodas.

To register or obtain further details, access the site below and fill
out
and submit the associated registration form which can be found at:
http://www.asme.org/sections/pikes_peak/

This tour is limited to only *24* people, and so is expected to fill
quickly.

The final date for registration is August 13th. Further details will
beprovided regarding transportation logistics (carpooling) and other
