I will second this recommendation.  I don't usually use "su -" because
it has the often unwanted side effect of changing your cwd (as in 'make
install'  whoops, no Makefile here ;).  Just add the sbin directories
to your own path and use sudo or plain 'su'.  To modify your path, use
~/.login or .profile depending on your shell.
