After some direct experience with these and others, here is my current
ranking of how many retries it took "ncftp" to log in, and how fast
the transfers were to these relatively close (fast ping) hosts:

good, 340 kB/s: ftp://limestone.uoregon.edu/redhat/8.0/
easy in, 300 kB/s: ftp://carroll.aset.psu.edu/pub/linux/distributions/redhat/redhat/linux/8.0/
busy, 60-80 kB/s: ftp://ftp.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/redhat/linux/8.0/
easy in, 20 kB/s: ftp://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/linux/redhat/8.0/
timeout on login: ftp://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/redhat/redhat/linux/8.0/
no openings: ftp://chuck.ucs.indiana.edu/pub/linux/redhat/redhat/linux/8.0/

It is nice to do these downloads over the Internet2 backbone - 30
minutes for each iso image.

But most importantly, I gave up on the last two - couldn't log in
for a long time.
