Ah, in this case make sure you have a tcp listener on port 25 (and NOT
just on the loopback address).  'lsof -i :25' should yield something like:

COMMAND  PID USER   FD   TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
sendmail 658 root    4u  IPv4   1367       TCP *:smtp (LISTEN)

Note the *:smtp result means "port 25 on every interface".
