Click on the thread icon and it will expand them out and select them all.

By default it saves to the "Sent" folder on the IMAP server.  At times I 
change this default.  See the Edit>Mail & Newsgroups Account 
Settings>Copies & Folders.  Be sure there is a checked box for "Place a 
copy in:".

Now don't be starting a flame war here!  :-P   Of course Mozilla is my 
choice GUI client.  Also be sure to be using the latest 1.3 of Mozilla; 
tons of bug fixes and awesome new features!
