[lug] Virtual Directory Support and Apache/PHP

The PHP function phpinfo() returns a Virtual Directory Support field
that shows that it is disabled.  Is this an extension of Apache or PHP?
How does one go about enabling it?  Searching Google returns info about
people wanting to know how to enable it, virtual hosting or PHP's
virtual() function.  Any info would be helpful.
