Cliff Stoll observed in his book "The Cuckoos Egg" which was published
in the late eighties that a mono-culture of computer systems in
unhealthy. It is no different than a forest. Foresters have long
recognized that if you plant large stands of same-species trees
together, pests and disease will strike them to a much greater degree
than if you have a diverse eco-system.

Subject: [lug] new idea about os's

here's a very new (to me, anyway) idea
about os's -- whether they be windows,
linux, mac os, bsd, whatever:

that whenever there's one with an
almost-monopoly position, there's
an almost-irresistable target for
crackers.

there has been a report written on
this, and the place i found it
written up was -- The Microsoft
Certified Professional Magazine!
