[lug] ssh/scp hanging

That seems to be the problem. Thanks! But I don't know how to add reverse
DNS zones. I'm new to DNS, even though I've been forced to hack it since
I've been here, but since they are production servers, I try to be extremely
cautious

I would check for problems with reverse DNS. Try the command "dig -x
<IP address>' (and try with your IP and your development server's IP).
Dig should either return with a DNS name, or it should immediately
return with an unknown name.

If you're using your own DNS servers for internal IP addresses, try
adding zones for reverse DNS in your internal IP nets, even if the zones
are empty.

How long have you tried waiting for SSH to return? It shouldn't hang
forever, only 6 minutes or so, if it is a DNS problem.
