A long time ago in a land far away I created two scripts: asdf and
aoeu (I think that's the letters on the left hand). They would
execute:

    xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap.$(basename $0)

The .Xmodmap files were set up with my dvorak and qwerty mappings,
respectively. I mapped the programs to menu items, too, but I found
the asdf/aoeu faster to use, and it also served as a sanity check for
what mode the keyboard was in.

Good luck.

Rob

P.S. I'm sorry to say that after 10+ years using dvorak keyboards, I
simply gave up and threw it all out. It didn't help with my RSI,
and it probably hurt my RSI (by increasing my stress :-) when I
had to use a computer that wasn't setup for dvorak.
