The general answer (to a rather general question) is: no.
But things depend on your network setup and the way your distro
handles it.

Ethernet and ppp (most often on top of a serial line or ethernet ) don't 
directly interfere. Usually the script that starts/sets up the ppp 
interface takes care of setting the correct routes (usually one uses
ppp to connect to the internet and hence these scripts set the default
route to use the ppp interface. If you need ppp to connect to a specific
net and still need your default route via ethernet you need to tweak
the scripts).
