[lug] advice for scripting modem....

I'm not sure what's on your other end, but if it can use ppp, you can set
up pppd to be demand dial.  Then when you try to send stuff it hangs until
the connection comes up and then starts.

Depending on the recipient, you could then set up sshd to transfer the
files.

I did something somewhat similar for downloading email a while back.
