What isn't obvious in master.cf, is that the service "names" are either 
unix socket file names or internet port numbers. For unix services, the 
private/public setting determines whether the socket is in 
/var/spool/postfix/{public,private}. For inet services, the name is the 
port the service listens on.

Do you mean: Postfix: the Defintive Guide, Kyle Dent, 2004? I have it, 
and think it is a pretty good introduction to the system. Doesn't cover 
some of the new features since 2.1. The poor review may be more due to 
postfix's config parameters not being as orthogonal as they could be.
