[lug] disk geometry {no filter}

I am working on a low-level scsi device driver in Linux, and I am noticing that Linux is storing some sort of geometry information somewhere on the disk instead of making up a geometry through a "bios_parm" call to the Low Level device driver.  

Do any of you know where this geometry information is stored and where it might be documented?
