[lug] ide-scsi emulation and CD ripping

Which kernel are you running?  cdrecord (which is what k3b and others use
under the hood) relies on the scsi naming/emulation that ide-scsi
provides.  With 2.6, the ide-scsi module went away and there was a new way
of referencing the drive (but I don't remember what it was :)

On a Debian sarge/testing system, after some point, CD burning stopped
working until I upgraded to the 2.6 kernel.

Of course now that I read your post, I think what may be required is to
have cdrecord setuid root (normal precautions apply).  I think k3b prompts
you to make it "user friendly" when you start it for the first time.  I
believe there is a dialog in the preferences/setup area that can be used
too.
