I have just used bootp, and that is correct.  Siegfried, if you don't know how
DHCP works, it is sending out packets on the local ethernet (whatever you call
that), and the IP address on the packets is something like 0.0.0.0 or
255.255.255.255 (can't remember off the top of my head), since before the
DHCP, you don't know what your IP address is supposed to be, and you don't
want to accidentally stomp on already-allocated IP addresses.  bootp does the
same kind of thing so it can't be routed.  Theoretically, if you have OpenVPN
in TAP mode, you could do it though.  I have not done that.
