[lug] Adding Sata drives help

I'm assuming that you are also on the same controller?

I believe it should just work.  Does dmesg not show them after booting
(dmesg|grep sd)?

What are you basing "appears not to see them" on?  Did you try and fdisk
/dev/sdb /dev/sdc and have it fail?
