Wow, really?  I guess I hadn't really noticed because I always put in
"mirrors.tummy.com" manually for the mirror when doing Debian or Ubuntu
installs.  "yum" on Fedora/CentOS and upcoming RHEL is pretty good about
this.  It doesn't auto-detect when a mirror is too slow (50KB/sec on my
8mbps cable line sucks), but it will fail over to others if you Control-C
it.  It also has a "fastestmirror" plugin that seems to help.  I still try
to point things at mirrors.tummy.com though, especially at our hosting
facility.
