random data points

c) we've noticed that on Vmware server, the single socket Dual Core box
was a bit of a dog. on a 2 socket box, the performance was much better
(I don't think the 2 socket box had DC cpus but I'm not sure).

d) we've got RHEL running on Xeon/DC processors in an hp dl360 server,
an hp xw8400 and an hpxw4400 (both "workstation" class machines). I
don't think the proc support will be so much the issue. I would be
concerned about whether or not all the various chipsets on the
motherboards are supported.

Obviously mileage will vary.
