If you're using an LFS-compliant distro and only packages from that  
distro, all the configuration files should be in one location... / 
etc.  If they're not there, you should file a bug with the distro/ 
package maintainer.

If you're loading other non-compilant software, you're on your own to  
track where it stores things.

(Applications that install to /opt or /usr/local/ come to mind.)
