i know that. but i'm still not sure i'm going to be needing it. that said
it isn't going to hurt to put it on and i had already planned for it. my
intended config is pretty similar to what you have spec'd below.

i was going to create a separate md raid 1 partition for swap.  faster
reads, slower writes and true failover in case 1 disk fails.

anybody have thoughts on why i wouldN'T want to do that?

i didn't know this.  good to know.  wonder if it's the same for RH / CentOS?
