Apple uses the same LCD hardware from the same manufacturers as everyone
else.  For example, Apple Cinema Display LCDs are actually made by LG
Phillips, just like Dell's widescreen LCDs.

And for laptops, Apple has the same 6-bit per color displays as PC
laptops.  See:
